Música Prima - Nuevos Mundos [CD]
The music on this recording is taken from the so-called Trujillo Codex in Peru. This Codex is an example of formal variety and a wealth of musical materials performed on the Iberian Peninsula and in the Americas from the pre-Columbian period up to well into the 18th century, and goes beyond the normal European musical conventions of the time. Francisco Orozco and the members of Música Prima have put together a program from a wide range of sources from the audio-aural tradition, the living memory, that is to say, the place where we adequately take notice of an ephemeral art, a temporary nature, like art music or folk music.
Francisco Orozco - voice, lutes, vihuela, direction
Jose Manuel Vaquero - organetto, hurdy gurdy
Johanna Rose - violas
Vicente Parrilla - recorders
Alvaro Garrido - percussion
